Canova Giraudo Accademia
A Ring That Lets the Air Sing

Some loudspeakers impose themselves on a room, and others transform it. The Giraudo Accademia belongs to the second kind: it is a sculpture that plays music, or, if you prefer, an instrument that chose to be a sculpture.

A large open ring rises from the base and closes into an arch. This is not a piece of furniture with drivers fitted into it; it is a structure conceived around sound. The curved lines are no affectation: they avoid the parallel walls and sharp edges that, in a conventional cabinet, encourage resonances and diffraction. The dedicated midrange drivers are enclosed in a sculpted capsule that faces the listener. At the heart of the arch, the tweeter is suspended in air, free from any possible interference.

In this way the Giraudo Accademia frames sound and gives it structure in a single gesture, which is why it resembles no other loudspeaker and could not do so.

Five way-design, No Catalogue Compromises

Each way is entrusted to a driver chosen among the best in the world. This is not a collection of illustrious names, but a selection made driver by driver, according to the task each has to perform and the voice it must hand over to the next.

The Bass: Precision and Breath

The low end combines two principles: the pneumatic suspension (acoustic suspension) and the transmission line. From the first comes the speed and control of a sealed enclosure; from the second, the breadth and naturalness that characterise this demanding type of construction. The result is bass that supports the music without bloating it: deep, yet rigorously clear and distinct.

The bass module, with one woofer on the front and one on the rear, is mechanically decoupled from the rest of the cabinet. The vibrations generated by the woofers do not reach the structure that carries the midrange and treble, which play on a motionless base. It is a solution found in only a handful of the very highest-end loudspeakers.

A Bespoke Crossover

The Giraudo Accademia’s crossover is the critical point where five voices become one: work that goes unseen yet decides everything, built on extensive experimentation and uncompromising components.

Wood and Aerospace Composite

Fine wood and aerospace composite material: the warmth and damping capacity of the one, the rigidity and lightness of the other. These materials were chosen not for show but for the same reason a good cabinet must know how to stay silent while the sound passes through it: adding nothing, taking nothing away.

The Giraudo Accademia is made to order, in Venice.
